Creating Placements
A Placement refers to a location within your app where ads can be displayed. This location might be, for example, on your start screen, on the Game Over screen, or the bottom or top bar of the app. You can add multiple placements within one app, and must have at least one ad placement to monetize your app. For each placement, you can define a specific ad format, configuration, and delivery rules to maximize performance.
Adding Your Placement
To start adding your ad placement:
- Log in to the DT console, here
- Under Monetization, Click App Management on the menu
The App Management window opens:
- Select the app for which you want to create placements
- The placement window opens. All current placements are displayed
- Click
You have successfully created a placement. You can directly add instances and edit floor prices from the placement list. Further elements are customizable through Placement Setup.
Multi-Test
- Under Create Multi-Test, toggle to ON to test different placement configurations
- Recommended test time will be generated after the placement has some performance data
To learn more about Multi-Testing, read here.
Targeting
You can target a specific audience that is exposed to ads running on this placement.
Set at least one option (Country or Network Connection), or turn the toggle off.
Floor Price
Floor prices indicate to buyers participating in auctions held in DT Exchange, the minimal price at which you are willing to sell your inventory. By default, it is set to $0.01 for all countries. A floor price must be at least $0.01 or higher otherwise an auction cannot be held. All floor prices are in US dollars.
- Enter a floor price
- Select countries and set a different eCPM floor price for them
- Filter and amend the floor price individually or by Country Group
Capping and Pacing
You can limit the number of ads shown on a placement for a given timeframe and also add pacing rule.
Name | Description |
---|---|
Capping | Limit the number of impressions per minute / hour / day |
Pacing | The maximum number of ad impressions per second / minute / hour (how often the ad will be delivered) |
Ad Type Settings
In addition to the Placement Setup settings above, each ad type has further specific settings. Follow the steps in the chosen ad type.
Interstitials are full-page ads served between screens during mobile app navigation. They are presented to the user at natural app transition points such as launch, video pre-roll or game level load.
- Under Supported Ad Types, use the toggle option to turn a display interstitial into a video interstitial or select both options, even after the placement has been created. By default, both options are selected
- If the Video option is selected, you can customize the Video Skipability Settings to decide which videos you want to display
Rewarded ads are an engaging ad format that displays a short video ad (up to 30 seconds) to the user, in exchange for an in-app reward that the user earns. The user must watch the whole video through to the end to earn the reward.
The Rewarding section is intended for those who would like to use server side rewarding.
- Toggle ON Server Side Rewarding
- Provide a name for your in-app currency
- Input the rewarded amount, given for watching the entire ad on this placement
- Use Server Side Rewarding to define the server-to-server callback
Medium Rectangle (MREC) are 300x250 sized ads, serving both static and video, and positioned within editorial content of the app. There is no close button on MREC ads, and they are not skippable.
Set the Refresh Interval for the app banner placement. This determines the frequency in which a banner placement is refreshed to display a new ad.
MREC Ads are available from FairBid SDK version 3.33.1.
Quick Reporting Metrics
Next to each placement, you can find data of selected reporting metrics that relate to the performance of that placement. Using the given metrics, you can easily gain insights into the health of the placement in terms of how well it performs and its revenue contribution.
An explanation of each metric is provided in its tooltip. You can sort the displayed list of placements by each metric for quick insights or for placement management, in the context of the different metrics such as revenue contribution, engagement, or fill rate.
Best Practice Check
To create placements in bulk, you can also use the CSV Upload tool. Click here for more information.
Next, add mediated networks.
Adding Mediated Networks
Now that you have signed up with DT and added an app to the console, the next step is to add mediated networks.
Important
Before adding a mediated network, you must retrieve parameters from the various networks' dashboards.
Comprehensive mediation configuration guides for each network can be found here.
Before adding a mediated network, you must retrieve parameters from the various networks' dashboards.
Adding a Mediated Network
-
On the App Management window, click Mediated Networks
- Click the required mediated network from the list
All networks are inactive until selected otherwise.
- The network configuration window opens. Enter the credentials as required.
Each network requires different information.
- Click Save.
The mediated network is added to the Active Mediated Networks section successfully. Repeat this process for each mediated network you wish to add.
Important
All network settings are defined at the app level and are inherited by all of its placements defined in the app.
For a detailed list of the required parameters for each network, read more in the network guides.
You must make sure that you associate an instance of the Mediated Network to a placement and configure it correctly. Click here to create placements for your app.
Creating Instances
As part of the set-up process for your placement, you can define Ad Network Instances and arrange them in order of preference within the Console.
Creating an Instance
Once you have configured mediated networks and added placements to your app, you can easily add mediated network instances to your placement configuration.
To configure an instance, follow these steps:
- Login to the DT Console and select the app for which you want to add instances
- Next to the relevant placement from the placement list, click Add Instances
- Enter the details of the instance:
- Instance Name - The internal name of the instance in the DT Console and used in reporting
- Mediated Network - The network for which you are setting up the instance
If you can't find the relevant network, it is likely that you have not yet set it up. For details, click here.
- Instance ID - Taken from the dashboard of the selected network. For a detailed guide on how to retrieve parameters per network click here and navigate to the relevant network guide.
- CPM - Enter a manual CPM value for new instances, without previous performance data, while leaving Auto CPM on. See further details below in the Auto CPM section.
- When finished, click Save Instance
You have successfully created an instance. All instances are displayed in the list under the corresponding placement.
Auto CPM
The DT FairBid Auto CPM prediction relies on paid CPM values for the instance from the previous 30 days. Using this data, the algorithm produces the most accurate CPM prediction and positions the instance in the waterfall to ensure maximal revenues. By default, Auto CPM is selected.
When creating a new instance, it is recommended to leave the Auto CPM box checked and set Manual CPM prices for the instance's top countries, like this:
The Manual CPM prices will be used while Auto CPM prediction ramps up with data. Leaving the Auto CPM box checked enables FairBid to automatically move from the entered Manual CPM to the Auto CPM prediction method, once enough data is gathered. If you still choose to enforce a manual CPM price, define it on the Manual CPM List and uncheck Auto CPM (however, this is not recommended).
To set Manual CPM prices for your top countries, follow these steps:
- Search for a country or a frequently used country group
- Enter a price for the selected country and click
The Rest of the World price of $0.01 is automatically created after adding prices for specific countries. If no country is selected, a manual price of $0.01 is applied worldwide
- Click X to save and return to the main screen
Instance Capping and Pacing
The Instance Setup page allows you to manage advanced settings of the instance.
The Instance Setup page allows you to manage the following settings:
Capping - Limit the number of impressions per minute / hour / day. Toggle the switch to insert your values of choice.
Pacing - Set a limit of one ad display at most per second / minute / hour (how often the ad will be delivered). Toggle the switch to insert your values of choice.
Instance Targeting
Follow these steps to add instance targeting.
Targeting by Country
Choose a list of countries in which the instance will be active, or a list of countries in which it won’t. If a user generates an ad request from a country where the instance isn’t active, the instance is never called and therefore does not provide a fill. Toggle the switch to display the settings and insert your values of choice.
Pay attention to use the Include/Exclude options carefully according to your targeting choice.
Targeting by User Tracking Status
This option allows you to restrict the instance exposure depending on the decision made by the user with regard to allowing tracking. For iOS, It is based on Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework and the availability of IDFA. For Android, It is based on the user's choice of whether to opt-out of Ad Personalization.
Use this advanced setting to create different waterfall setups for the same placement. Each is targeted for different types of users - those who allow tracking them and those who do not.
When finished, click Save.
Best Practice Check
To create placements in bulk, you can also use the CSV Upload tool. Click here for more information.
Activating or Deactivating an Instance
- Toggle the switch to either activate or deactivate the instance
Deleting an Instance
You are prompted to confirm if you want to delete the instance.
- Click Delete to remove the instance
Mediated Network Instances that are deactivated are automatically moved to the auto-optimization section and disconnected from the placement.
Prioritizing Ad Networks
If you wish, you are able to prioritize the order of the Ad Networks manually. This will be the order in which the instances are called, before moving to instances under the Auto Optimized section.
- All existing instances for this placement are displayed. You are able to edit existing placements through "Instance Setup", as well as add new instances.
- Under Guaranteed Deals, you can find the list of Mediated Networks
- Drag and drop the instances in the Manual Prioritization section to the order in which you want them to be prioritized.
Setting manual prioritization overrides all instances under Automatic CPM ("Auto Optimized") in the waterfall. You cannot prioritize Programmatic Mediation (bidding) partners.
Waterfall Visualization
The Waterfall Visualization tool displays the order in which the waterfall instances are called, together with the values predicted by DT’s Auto CPM algorithm if you have set Auto CPM as an instance.
The Waterfall Visualization takes into account:
- Settings of the instance targeting
- The country from which the ad request is received
- The user’s tracking status (if the IDFA is available for iOS users, or if an Android user opted out of personalized ads)
To use the Waterfall Visualization feature:
- Click the three vertical dots next to the placement
- Click Waterfall Visualization to open the window
-
Select a country and the user tracking status
A simulation of the waterfall for the next ad request is displayed.
Auction Audit
Using the Auction Audit tool, you can both sample and view real logs of auctions that have taken place within the last seven days for any of your FairBid Placements. The sampled auctions of the Placement are chosen at random according to the country and time you have selected.
The FairBid auction begins with running the waterfall and continues to the bidders’ auction, that includes the DT Exchange DSPs and the bidding mediated networks. The FairBid auction winner is the demand source that offered or was predicted to offer the highest CPM for the ad request.
It may take up to 20 minutes for a change made in the Placement setup, to become active in live auctions.
To use the Audit Auction feature:
- Click the three vertical dots next to the placement
- Click Auction Audit to open the window
- Select the country, date, and hour of the auction
- Click Sample an Auction
The auction details are displayed.
By default, the first presented sample is an auction that took place 24 hours ago for an ad request from the United States of America.
Change the filter values to sample auctions that have taken place on ad requests from different countries, days, and times. For each combination of country, date and time, you can sample up to 5 different auctions that have taken place.
To sample an additional auction using the same country and time combination, click Sample an Auction again.
A counter with the number of the currently displayed auctions out of the possible available auctions is displayed above the sample.
You can copy the sample content for further analysis of the auction together with your DT Account Manager.
